Education
The Spruce Peak Performing Arts Center will be launching at the end of December, 2010. In addition to the performance events taking place, the Center will be introducing a four phase educational mission as part of the Center’s overall goals and mission. These four components to the education program are the base guidelines and it is our intent and hope to grow these programs as a benefit to the community, region, and for both school age children and life-long learners.
The Daytime Educational Performance Series (to be named)
We will offer a series of live performances during the daytime to local and regional schools, private schools and home school associations here at the performing arts center.
These performances are designed to tie into and be reflective of curriculum and learning needs, as well as opportunities for children to be exposed to the arts at all ages and levels.
Schools /classrooms attending the performances will be provided with study guides, prep materials and learning tools that can be used with students prior to and following the performance events
Currently, we are projected 8-10 live opportunities during the academic year.
We are also in the process of development a scholarship/support program for the Daytime Educational Series called Fueling the Arts which will allow us to purchase and distribute discounted gas/fuel cards to school systems to assist with paying for buses for the school matinees (In process)
Master classes and Lecture / Demo Programs for All Ages
Working with local, regional, national and international artists, we will be developing a series of master class opportunities for local school age children and life-long learners.
The Education Manager, in conjunction with the Executive Director, will be negotiating with visiting artists to present masterclass opportunities during their time at the Spruce Peak PAC.
Residency, Extended Residencies and Seminar Programs
We will be working with local, regional and national artists to create residency opportunities where artists will go out into the community and the region to give masterclasses, lectures, Q/A sessions and more in different community settings.
The extended residency / commissioning program is in development with the idea of working with dance and theatre companies on the commissioning of new works by the Center, where the company would come and be in residence for up to three weeks to develop new performance works. During the extended residency, there would be masterclass and lecture/demo events.
We are also in the preliminary development phase on extended seminar programs, for example – A three week seminar/workshop on Improvisational Theatre for 12 people culminating in a performance opportunity, etc.
Internship Program
We will be developing an internship program for both high school and college age students that will offer learning opportunities in production, management, artistic programming, marketing, fundraising, and facility management.
Programs will be designed to offer both a general overview and then intensive focus in specific areas during an academic year long internship and a semester long internship.
