For the fourth year in a row, Stowe’s TRIP Dance Company will return to the stage on Saturday, March 22, at the Spruce Peak Performing Arts Center at 3pm and 7:30 pm to perform at its annual fundraiser. TRIP, which stands for Technique, Rehearse, Implement and Perform, is in its 12th year as a competitive dance company associated with the Stowe Dance Academy and comprised of 44 dancers ages 6-18 from the towns of Stowe, Waterbury, Waterbury Center, Morrisville, Johnson, Elmore, Hyde Park, Waitsfield, and Eden. TRIP is a nonprofit organization that offers young dancers the opportunity to master technique and performance skills in the areas of Ballet, Jazz, Lyrical, and Modern.
This year’s dance repertoire includes all-new choreography, both innovative and classical, that will be performed later this year at leading industry competitions, NUVO and Tremaine. Well-known dance celebrities such as “So You Think You Can Dance” choreographers Stacey Tookey and Travis Wall, and SYTYCD 2012 Female Runner-up Tiffany Maher, will be instructing and judging the TRIP dancers and their select dances. During these competition weekends, the girls take challenging dance classes and go on to compete for highly coveted scholarships and awards.
“Every year since TRIP’s formation 12 years ago,” says TRIP director Helena Sullivan, “the skill level of this Company and the commitment of these girls continues to grow and garner attention from the dance world at large.”
Many of the TRIP dancers spend their summers attending competitive and highly selective dance intensives at world-renown ballet schools such as School of American Ballet, Bolshoi Ballet Academy, American Ballet Theater and Joffrey Ballet.
