A little about the Laver Cup:
The Laver Cup is a team tournament, featuring men’s tennis players from Europe, against their counterparts from the rest of the world. Each team is composed of six players, and led by a team captain, who is a legend of the sport. The captain of Europe is Bjorn Borg, and the captain of Team World is John McEnroe. Three of the six players qualify based on their ATP singles ranking as of the Monday following the French Open. Three are “captain’s picks”, announced by the start of the US Open. Bjorn Borg’s Team Europe includes Matteo Berrettini, Stefanos Tsitsipas, Alexander Zverev, Andrey Rublev, Daniil Medvedev, along with Casper Ruud and Feliciano Lopez. John McEnroe’s Team World will be Denis Shapovalov, Felix Auger-Aliassime, Diego Schwartzman, Nick Kyrgios, Reilly Opelka, John Isner, and Jack Sock. The scoring of the Laver Cup follows a point system. Each match win is worth one point on Friday, two points on Saturday, and three points on Sunday. The first team to reach 13 points out of a total 24 points available wins the Laver Cup. If the points are tied at 12:12, a fifth match on Sunday is played to determine the winner. The Laver Cup is filled with energy and excitement, and we are looking forward to welcoming the event to Boston’s TD Garden this fall, September 24-26, 2021.
