OCTOBER ON MT. MANSFIELD
Jennifer DeGeorge
Weaving has been my art language for 9 years now. I am in love. I have been drawn in by the materials, the textures and colors. Using all sorts of fiber including wool, cotton, recycled silk saris, linen, jute, hemp, flax, velvet, and silk worm cocoons-working on homemade looms we build in my home studio in Underhill, nestled in Thunder Basin on the side of Mount Mansfield. The weavings are inspired by the view of Mount Mansfield’s chin from my home windows. Some weavings have a hidden silhouette of the mountain in them. I look out on this mountain at all times of day, at all times of the year, through each season and I am in awe of the beauty and the changes in colors and light at different times. It is truly breathtaking. She changes with every moment… She’s never the same, yet she is always constant. Last night I dreamed-marvelous error! That i had a beehive here in my heart. And that the golden bees were making white combs and sweet honey from my old failures. -Antonio Machado
