Elan Ballet Theatre – Carmina Burana and The Pharaohʼs Daughter

June 19 – 20

This exciting performance showcases the talents of the dancers of Elan Ballet Theatre and Elan Academy of Classical Ballet.

Carmina Burana, a contemporary ballet set to Carl Orffʼs famous score, is based on a collection of medieval poems themed around the subjects of Fate, Spring, Tavern Songs, and Love Songs. Carmina Burana powerfully celebrates all of lifeʼs beauty and harsh realities through dramatic and moving choreography, evoking the inescapable turning of the Wheel of Fortune.

The Pharaohʼs Daughter is a classical ballet, originally choreographed by Marius Petipa in 1862. Elan Ballet Theatre has proudly modernized this story, while retaining much of the Petipa choreography. Our version tells the story of female archeologists Ta-Hor and Passiphonte, who have traveled back in time to ancient Egypt where they meet Aspicia, The Pharaohʼs Daughter, and her Lady in Waiting Ramze. The story revolves around The Pharaohʼs plan to wed Aspicia to the King of Nubia, Aspicias reluctance to the arranged marriage, and her new-found friends attempts to help her to escape her fate. The story has all the magic one comes to expect and love from a classical ballet; thrilling dramatic story telling, beautiful and demanding classical dance, gorgeous costumes, and exotic settings including an Egyptian palace, a Fishing Village, and a trip to the Underwater Kingdom of Mother Nile. Come join us in this fantastic step back in time and enjoy the glorious dancing of Elan Ballet Theatre and the students of Elan Academy of Classical Ballet!
