Let’s Tango!

A concert not to be missed, Let’s Tango! will showcase Boston based Duo Cello e Basso and pianist Victor Cayres. The trio will perform their own arrangements of the music of Piazzolla and Gardel, with favorites such as El día que me quieras, Por una cabeza, as well as lesser known works such as Kicho, a virtuoso piece dedicated to Enrique Kicho Díaz, the double bass player in Piazzolla’s band. Celebrated works, such as Le Grand Tango, dedicated to Russian cellist Mstislav Rostropovich, and Cuatro Estaciones Porteñas, also known as The Four Seasons of Buenos Aires, will also be featured. The trio has recorded these arrangements for a CD scheduled to be released in the Spring/Summer 2021.

This concert, generously sponsored by Deborah and Ron Feinstein, was livestreamed from Boston’s own state-of-the-art Futura Productions recording studio on January 28th, at 7PM Eastern Time. Admission is free but a ticket reservation is required to receive the link to the program.

Described by NPR’s Ron Schachter as “a musical Lewis and Clark, Duo Cello e Basso “unites passion with elegance” (Boston Globe). Cellist/composer Emmanuel Feldman and double bassist Pascale Delache-Feldman partner to perform repertoire ranging from Bach, Mozart and Rossini to Bartok, Feldman and Schnitke. With more than 20 commissions and premiers to their credit, the duo creates dynamic programming that surprises and energizes audiences. The duo’s Boston Celebrity Series debut featured Pulitzer Prize winner John Harbison’s “Deep Dances” written for the Duo and Rebecca Rice Dance. Other performance credits include the Kennedy Center and the Phillips Collection in DC, and abroad, at the Ferenc Liszt Academy, Budapest, Radio France, Paris and Altes Rathaus, Vienna. Ms. Delache-Feldman is on the faculty at the Longy School of Music of Bard College. Mr. Feldman is on the faculty of New England Conservatory and both Duo members are faculty members at Tufts University. 

Brazilian pianist Victor Cayres has earned praise for concerts with the Sine Nomine string quartet and as soloist with Boston Pops, Orchestre des Jeunes de Fribourg in Switzerland, and Brno Philharmonic in the Czech Republic. He has been a guest artist at Banff Center for the Arts in Canada, Interlochen Center for the Arts, Boston University Tanglewood Institute, Western Washington University, and Moscow’s Tchaikovsky Conservatory. He frequently performs in Brazil, Europe, and in the United States, including Weill Hall at Carnegie Hall, Chicago’s Preston Bradley Hall, Boston’s Symphony Hall and Jordan Hall. Mr. Cayres currently serves as Associate Director for Boston University Tanglewood Institute Young Artists Piano Program, as Instructor of Piano and Keyboard Area Coordinator at Eastern Illinois University, and as piano faculty at New England Conservatory Preparatory School and Continuing Education.
